MoneyRates Details State and Federal Tax Prep Costs
January 16, 2020

With 60% of tax returns prepared by professionals, the personal finance website shares research on nearly 75 tax preparation software programs and tax prep services

Foster City, CA—January 16, 2020—Personal finance resource, MoneyRates.com, recently published research into costs for 14 mostly free online tax preparation services, 19 paid subscription preparer services and surveyed professional tax-preparation costs throughout the United States.
MoneyRates analysis reviewed costs, features and customer ratings to evaluate consumer options for those with simple and complex tax returns. Researchers also considered available customer support, guarantees (if any), ease of use and the ability to import past returns to identify:

  1. Best free tax-prep services
  2. Best solutions for simple tax returns
  3. Best options for complex tax returns
  4. Best services for those with multiple state returns

“We could not locate a comprehensive, current analysis of tax preparation costs,” explains the report’s author, Gina Pogol. “So, we decided to conduct our own research taking into account different consumer tax-preparation needs and factoring in cost variability by region.”

MoneyRates’ spokesperson, Gina Pogol, is available to elaborate on what consumers should consider when choosing tax-preparation assistance.
