Considering a Move? Compare Cost of Living between Cities Side-by-Side on Insure.com
October 8, 2019

New tool shows states with the highest and lowest cost of living and displays the salary needed to maintain a current standard of living in a new location.

Foster City, CA – October 8, 2019 – Insure.com, a one-stop destination for unbiased, expert advice on life, health and home insurance, just produced a unique cost of living tool that can be valuable to those considering relocation for school, work or retirement.

Relocating from Reno, Nevada to Buzzards Bay, Massachusetts? Be prepared for a 22% higher cost of living, and see what your income should be to maintain your current standard of living. While you may pay less for groceries, transportation, and auto insurance, you’ll likely pay more for:

  • Housing, 44% increase
  • Utilities, 32% higher
  • Home insurance premiums, 203% hike

The Cost of Living Calculator lets you compare two locations side-by-side, with detail on the costs below. Note: standard cost of living data does not include any information on insurance expenses. Insure.com’s integration of home and auto insurance rate data is a unique feature of this tool.

  • Housing
  • Groceries
  • Utilities
  • Transportation
  • Health care
  • Goods and services
  • Auto insurance
  • Home insurance

“It’s important to put a new salary into perspective, if you’re thinking of relocating for work,” says Les Masterson, managing editor for Insure.com. “Or, for those considering several locations to retire, it can be helpful to understand how costs for housing, healthcare, groceries and other items vary by location.”

The Cost of Living Calculator is published here: https://www.insure.com/cost-of-living-calculator, along with a list of the highest and lowest cost of living areas in the United States, including:

  1. New York, NY
  1. Harlingen, TX
  1. San Francisco, CA
  1. Santa Maria, TX

It’s interesting that nine of the 10 highest cost of living areas are in California, while seven of the 10 lowest cost of living areas are in Texas. Insure.com provides an interactive map showing cost of living across all 50 states.

Les Masterson is able to comment on how cost of living can influence people’s lives and what individuals can do if they are moving to a higher cost of living area.
